How to Create Cinematic Titles in After Effects

Cinematic titles give your video a professional, Hollywood-style feel. With After Effects, you can design and animate titles that look like they belong in a blockbuster film. Whether for trailers, intros, or presentations, here’s how to create cinematic titles step by step.

🎬 Step 1: Set Up Your Composition

  1. Create a new comp (1920×1080, 24 fps, 10–15 seconds).
  2. Choose a dark background (solid or gradient).
  3. Add an Adjustment Layer for later effects like glow or vignette.

🎨 Step 2: Add Your Text

  1. Use the Type Tool (T) to create your title.
  2. Choose a cinematic font (serif fonts or bold sans-serifs work best).
  3. Center the text with Align Panel.

👉 Pro Tip: Use tracking (letter spacing) to give titles a wide, dramatic look.

⚡ Step 3: Animate the Text

  • Opacity Animation: Fade in slowly for drama.
  • Scale Animation: Start at 120% → shrink to 100% for a subtle zoom.
  • Position Animation: Slide in from bottom or side with easing.

👉 Use Easy Ease (F9) and Graph Editor for smooth motion.

🎬 Step 4: Add Effects

  • Glow: Apply Effect > Stylize > Glow for subtle highlights.
  • Light Rays: Use CC Light Rays for cinematic emphasis.
  • Lens Flare: Add a flare for a Hollywood vibe.
  • Vignette: Darken the edges to focus attention on text.

✨ Step 5: Enhance with 3D & Depth

  • Enable 3D Layer for the text.
  • Add a Camera Layer to create depth.
  • Slightly animate camera position for dramatic movement.

🧪 Creative Uses

  • Movie Trailers → Bold, glowing titles.
  • YouTube Intros → Add cinematic impact.
  • Corporate Videos → Professional polished openings.

🎯 Final Thoughts

Cinematic titles rely on font choice, animation timing, and effects. Even with simple techniques, you can create titles that look like they came from the big screen.
